I have been doing lots of travel posts recently due to the fact that, well, I'm travelling so it makes sense. However, I have missed creating outfit inspiration as styling outfits together is my favorite past time and after being on the road for about a month and half I'm getting a bit sick of most of my clothes. I mean finding new ways to style the same pieces has been a great challenge but once you've tried every possible outcome it becomes a little tedious. Luckily, my best friend Lily is joining us next week and so we will be stealing some of her clothes (sorry Lils) making things a bit more interesting.
For now I wanted to share with you one of my favorite styles and something I am hoping that Lily will be bringing lots - Velvet. At the moment we have one velvet crop top and as lovely as it is, one is just not enough. When scouring the Internet for this post I was drawn to so many fabulous pieces (such as these red velvet Jimmy Choo boots, and this black Etro maxi skirt) but I stayed true to my poor student ways and created 3 ways to rock velvet on a budget, because, although it's nice to dream a girl needs to shop.
So everyone is posting about the Nordstorm sale and although I like Nordstorm as much as the next person, I feel like there is no point in me showing you the same things and items everyone else will be. Instead I have decided to bring you a few of my favourite sale items that aren't from the Nordstrom sale. I have chosen to show you American Eagle because although I love so many of the sale items it is particularly the crop tops that got me, there are so many variations, there's a style for everyone and every mood. I love it. Shop, shop, shop . . .
So as you may know I am huge lover of sustainable fashion. Reclaimed, eco-friendly, up-cycled, vintage I love it all, not just because it is good for our little old planet but because you find unique things that you just don't find from new fashion. Wandering the Amsterdam Vintage fashion shops like Episode and Laura Dols and 1953 Retro Chic it was amazing seeing such a fabulous range of unqiue items, I haven't seen anything like it in a long time. I mean there were 3 racks of velvet, lace and silk shirts . . .
So the jist of this, in case you hadn't noticed, is that reclaimed is the way to go and as I can't take you all around Amsterdam with me I have decided to revisit one of my old favourites The ASOS Green Room aka The Eco Edit and show you what new pieces they have to offer for your summer. Last year I shared The Green Room with you, inviting you to Reclaim Your Wardrobe and now a year on I am again inviting you to reclaim your summer.
If you want to know more about the reclaimed fashion brands visit the brand page of the Green Room or see more brands here.
Comfort is essential when travelling. End of. Don't get me wrong I love getting dressed up and going out as much as the next person, but when your travelling around new city and have a limited amount of time to explore, the priority it getting around and seeing it and on a budget that requires comfort. For most of our wanderings around Amsterdam we have walked as it's a city with such beauty you can't not, and student budget travelling doesn't exactly cover luxury travel, however Uber has been the saviour every now and again.
I can, and often do, sit for hours on end reading through other people's blogs and scrolling through Pinterest. Not because I have to, or because I am a blogger and think I should, but because I simply love it. There's nothing better than finding a blog that you love and can immerse yourself into, transporting you to another place (in my case usually a sunnier place) and inspiring you in so many ways. Even now on my travels, while sitting having my morning coffee in our house in Amsterdam, I have found time to have a search through the blog world and see what gems I can find.
I have rounded up 4 of my favourite fashion and travel blogs, and every week will be sharing a new favourite of mine somewhere on the blog or social media as part of #BlogWatchWednesday to show you how awesome the blogging world is, and to inspire you to explore and see what blogger buddies there are out there.
We are safely unpacked and settled into our new home in Amsterdam and I can't believe how at home we both feel here already. The apartment is perfect for us with a little garden out the back and the comfiest sofa in the world, it is our relaxing zone before the partying of the rest of the trip. I will share more about Amsterdam in the coming weeks but for the moment here is our home away from home.
So I have fallen in love with a crop top. Shock! Nevertheless I have to share it with you because it's just so god damn gorgeous! It is one of my picks of summer (which you will soon find in the shop section) and I have styled it 3 different ways, just so you can get a feel of how to wear this baby.
I feel like I should add that if you are thinking this crop is out of your budget, don't you worry, me too! That is why I have included a nice little affordable alternatives section, for all you girls who are strapped for cash like me.
I am in an extremely good mood today, and have been for the past week to be honest, mostly due to the fact that it is less than 20 days to go before I set off!! For those of you that don't know, from the first of July I am going to be travelling around Europe for 3 months and as you may be able to tell I am very excited about it. I plan to keep you up all up-dated on where my feet are wandering and show you the beautiful places I visit (new additions to the blog are coming soon) so make sure you keep up to date with Bloglovin' and the rest of the social media shiizz. . . you know the drill.
For now I want to share with you my version of how to prepare for travelling for 3 months. I found planning for this an experience in itself as I'm quite spontaneous and have never had to think, let alone plan, so far ahead. Especially the clothes. As a fashion blogger, and just generally a human being I do not pack light, so deciding what specific clothes to take was tricky.
Tip 1: The key is versatility. You need pieces that will all work together as, lets be honest they are all going to at some point. Tip 2: Think comfort first.
Recently I have been on the hunt for a cute, good quality, off-shoulder top for my travels this summer (yes, exciting updates to come) and it has been a bountiful search. The choice out there this summer is fabulous but as I will be on-the-go travelling, I need one that is versatile, able to go with anything, so I put it to the test. I paired this top in 4 different outfits, each with their own style and I have to admit . . . in my opinion this top passed the test.
It has been about a month since I got back from St Lucia but it feels like forever ago. Probably mostly due to the fact that it is so damn cold here, and I am craving the blue skies and sunshine.
Anyway, I want to finally share with you the rest of my amazing travel to St Lucia, which if you have never been is basically heaven on earth. I stayed in this incredible place called The Body Holiday which claim "Give us your body for a week and we will give you back your mind" and they aren't lying. Not only was the most beautiful place I have ever seen, but the food, the activities, the spa, the people everything was an absolute delight and am already planning going back.
It's been nearly a year since I made my first January Wishlist, so thought I would continue this tradition and bring you another one today. It's crazy to think how much has changed in the last year, and it has definitely been the hardest year so far, but I hope that next January I will be as happy at how far I've come as I am looking back now.
Now for the shopping . . . I've curated this exactly the same way as I did last year: my online shopping addiction. However, instead of keeping to one shop like I did last year I've branched out to give you a collection of pieces from all different styles, as unlike my bank account, my indecisiveness has grown this year. I must admit feeling slightly proud as I think this more controlled list might show progress in the control of my online shopping addiction, (one I'm sure we all share.) On the other hand, it might just show the realities of student living/budgeting so either way, fuck it let's shop.
I have unfortunately been ill for the whole of the year so far so haven't been off to a great start, however I was more than lucky in December as I went to St Lucia and visited some fantastic places one of which I want to show you now. On the last day of my holiday we visited Hotel Chcocolat while we were driving around and lazily heading back to the airport. It was one of the most incredible places I've ever been and I couldn't wait any longer to share it with you.
I will be sharing all of my travels from St Lucia soon so stay tuned but for now enjoy the magical world where I like to think oompa loompas might live.
